History and Vision
College of Arts, NTNU- Main three departments and institute, inherit and keep up with the time
College of Arts, NTNU was founded in August, 1982. Went through couple times of combination and reformation, the college is now an educational institute focus on the creation and research of visual art, and owns the three main institute, which includes, Department of Fine Arts, Department of Design, and Graduate Institute of Art History.
The Department of Fine Arts was founded in 1947, one of the oldest high education art school of the nation. Many art masters of the Chinese and western painting were faculty of the department. The department recruits contemporary top artists and scholars as the honor and chair professors of the college. The alumni of the department hold important positions of art and cultural educational and administrative institutes of the nation, with their outstanding performance, they always play the important roles of the domestic and foreign art circle.
The Department of Design was officially founded in 2012, which combined the undergraduate program of communication design, undergraduate program of industrial education (interior design branch), and the graduate institute of design. The undergraduate program focuses on the practical and integration of communication and product design with diversified courses. The graduated program which includes master and doctoral program is “creation-oriented”, with synthesized and advanced design courses.
The Graduate Institute of Art History (GIAH) founded in 2008, owns two professional graduate programs, western and eastern art history. The western art history program includes, painting, architecture and craft from 15 to 21 century. The eastern art history program includes four main fields, calligraphy, painting and visual culture, craft and architecture, Asian art and cultural exchange, and Taiwanese art.

The four college level research centers are:
Research Center for Conservation of Cultural Relics: The center is equipped with edge cutting restoration facilities, executing national collection restoration project and talent development.
International Printmaking Center: Promoting the printmaking environment, cultivating the artist, collecting master pieces, and holding international print exhibitions.
Research Center for Taiwan Art History: Executing the forward-looking projects, the center aiming to optimize the research of Taiwan Art history to date, and founding the featured academic discourse.
Research Center for Modern Ink Painting: Bring the diverse research achievement of modern ink painting in Taiwan to light, making NTNU the center of modern ink painting research.
Gather the strength of art in the campus- Art Festival and other spotlights
In every late March is the Art Festival hold by the College of Art, it lights up the community and practice the University’s social responsibility. Artist market, body painting, portrait sketching, installation art and DIY workshops aren’t the only things to do in the festival. International exchange exhibition, conferences, master’s lectures and serial exhibitions are features of the departments and shed lights to global collaboration.

Exhibition spaces of different scales bring the intimacy of art to the community where NTNU locates, at the same time being the perfect places for student’s internship.
Future target and Vision
Student empowering is the vision of College of Arts, with global view, employability and learning capacity at the same time, which maximize the effect of synergy. We strengthen the student’s global mobility, and put effort to the glocalization, too. The study trips, international exhibitions, master workshops, domestic and foreign competitions, all help students to broad their mind for world.
The College develops emerging domain-crossing programs, includes, Digital and Tech Art, Relics Restoration, Creative Industry and Art workshop in English, etc. We empower students and innovate new vista.
